Set years after the events of the previous film, disgraced scientist Dr. Herbert West is imprisoned after his illegal experiments with reanimating the dead are exposed. While serving time, West secretly continues his research, experimenting on prisoners and corpses inside the prison facility.

West discovers that a mysterious glowing substance within the human brain—what he calls the “re-agent of life”—is the key to restoring life to the dead. With the help of a young doctor assigned to the prison infirmary, West resumes his obsession with conquering death. However, his experiments quickly spiral out of control when the reanimated prisoners become violent and unpredictable.

As the prison descends into chaos and the undead begin to spread through the facility, West remains fixated on perfecting his formula, even as the consequences of his work threaten everyone around him.

Tone: Dark horror-comedy with graphic gore and mad-scientist experimentation, continuing the cult legacy of the Re-Animator series inspired by stories from H. P. Lovecraft.
