A unique entry from Nikkatsu’s early 1970s Sweden-shot productions, Desire: First Sexual Experience blends arthouse experimentation with the era’s fascination with Scandinavian cinema.

The film follows Nicole, a young woman who becomes absorbed in a novel written by her uncle. As she reads, the story shifts to Annika, a university student navigating complex personal experiences that challenge her understanding of relationships and identity. As the boundary between fiction and reality begins to blur, Nicole finds herself increasingly influenced by the narrative.

Visually distinctive, the film features stylized imagery, experimental editing, and a jazz-influenced soundtrack, creating a surreal and unconventional viewing experience.

Produced during a period of strong international interest in Scandinavian cinema, Nikkatsu brought a Japanese production team to Sweden between 1971–1973, resulting in a series of cross-cultural productions. This Blu-ray release from Klubb Super 8 marks the first time these restored titles have been made widely available outside of Japan.
