Twenty-eight days later, bicycle courier Jim (Cillian Murphy) awakens from a coma in a deserted London hospital. Confused and alone, he ventures into the abandoned city streets, where he soon discovers that society has collapsed.
After a terrifying encounter in a seemingly deserted church, Jim joins a small group of survivors and learns the truth: the chimpanzees were carrying a deadly virus that infects its victims with uncontrollable, murderous rage. Within days of the initial outbreak, much of the population has been wiped out.
As Jim and the other survivors search for safety, they are forced to confront not only the infected, but the increasingly desperate people left behind.
