A tense and unconventional entry from Nikkatsu’s early 1970s Sweden-shot productions, House of the Beast blends crime, psychological drama, and experimental storytelling.

The film follows three escaped convicts who flee Stockholm after a robbery, heading into the countryside to recover hidden money. Seeking shelter, they take refuge in a remote manor and hold the residents captive. However, the household proves far from ordinary, and as tensions rise, shifting alliances and unpredictable behavior begin to blur the lines of control within the estate.

With its confined setting and character-driven narrative, the film creates an increasingly uneasy atmosphere, supported by stylized direction and a distinctive tone.

Produced during a period of international interest in Scandinavian cinema, Nikkatsu brought a Japanese production team to Sweden between 1971–1973, resulting in a series of cross-cultural productions. This release from Klubb Super 8 presents one of these restored titles, now available outside of Japan.
