Sweeping historical epic Queen Margot (originally released as La Reine Margot) comes to 4K UHD and Blu-ray in a startling restoration, a box-office hit adaptation of the novel by Alexandre Dumas, directed by Patrice Chéreau.
She is beautiful, she is Catholic, she is the King’s sister, she is Marguerite de Valois. He is Protestant, they say that he is rude, that he never shaves, that he smells of garlic and sweat. He is Henri of Navarre. They are forced to marry. It is a political move: to reconcile the French, ripped apart by the Wars of Religion.
Fully restored in 4K from the original negative by Pathé in 2013 under the supervision of director Patrice Chéreau, just before his untimely passing, this 158-minute cut represents the ultimate, complete version of the film – as Chéreau wanted it to be seen.
Starring Isabelle Adjani (Possession), Daniel Auteuil (Caché), Jean-Hugues Anglade (Betty Blue), and Vincent Perez (At Eternity’s Gate), Queen Margot won the Jury Prize and the Best Actress Award at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Costume Design.
