SYNOPSIS

Nicknamed “Mr. B.I.G.” by Forrest J. Ackerman, filmmaker Bert I. Gordon built his legacy on larger-than-life creature features, including King Dinosaur, The Amazing Colossal Man, and Earth vs. the Spider.

Released in 1977, Empire of the Ants marked his final entry into the giant monster genre, loosely inspired by a story from H. G. Wells.

After radioactive waste is illegally dumped into the ocean, a barrel of toxic sludge washes ashore near a beachfront development being marketed by the unscrupulous Marilyn Fryser (Joan Collins). As she escorts potential buyers through the property, what begins as a routine sales pitch quickly turns into a nightmare.

Exposed to the chemicals, a colony of ants mutates into massive, aggressive predators — launching a relentless attack on the group and threatening humanity itself.
