Synopsis
Created over a decade at the end of cinema’s first century, Histoire(s) du cinéma is Jean-Luc Godard’s ambitious, essayistic exploration of film history—both a celebration of cinema’s achievements and a powerful critique of its failures.
Blending film clips, newsreel footage, artwork, music, and Godard’s own narration into a dense, hypnotic collage, the project reflects on cinema’s relationship with the world and its inability to fully confront the upheavals of the 20th century.
This landmark work is presented alongside a selection of Godard’s later film and video projects, culminating in his final work, Scénarios (2024), making its world Blu-ray debut. Together, these pieces showcase a filmmaker in his late period—introspective, experimental, and deeply engaged with the evolving language of cinema.
