Herbert Lom and Jason Robards star in this visually striking arthouse horror adaptation inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale. Directed by Gordon Hessler, Murders in the Rue Morgue blends psychological terror, murder mystery, and gothic atmosphere into one of the standout productions from Hessler and writer Chris Wicking’s celebrated run of films for AIP UK.

Set within the eerie world of a Parisian “Grand Guignol” theatre troupe, the story follows Madeline, a troubled actress plagued by terrifying visions of an axe-wielding killer. When members of the troupe begin turning up brutally murdered, paranoia and fear consume the company as Madeline becomes convinced the nightmare is only beginning.

Painstakingly restored in 4K by Hammer Film Productions from the original film negatives, this release includes both Hessler’s original director’s cut and AIP’s re-edited theatrical version.
