Synopsis
Set against the backdrop of early 1970s Spain—a nation caught between modernization and the final years of the Francoist regime—Two Boxes presents two chilling television films that blend social commentary with psychological horror.
Inspired by anthology classics like Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Twilight Zone, these films explore themes of surveillance, control, and obsession with dark humor and unsettling intensity.
In La cabina, directed by Antonio Mercero, a man becomes trapped inside a newly installed telephone booth, unable to escape as onlookers gather and his panic escalates. A major sensation upon release, the film later gained cult status in the UK through late-night television broadcasts.
In El televisor, directed by Narciso Ibáñez Serrador, a man’s simple dream of owning a television turns into a disturbing obsession with terrifying consequences. Originally part of Serrador’s acclaimed series, the film remains shocking and relevant more than 50 years later.
